With the past couple of events that have happened in 2020, the media has sucked them up like candy and thrown it out to anyone who is enticed to read them, even those who have the most fear in life. The thing I’m talking about is coronavirus, a definition of virus that has swept the media during the last 2 weeks and has brought up multiple new headlines if this would eventually kill us all. Now, something to mention, is that the flu has already killed 9000 Americans alone and has infected millions, coronavirus has only killed 150+ in China alone and has only spread throughout the world in small amounts, this may still be alarming of course as this could result in a pandemic but we have to realize that many scientists and doctors are trying to figure out a vaccine in the meantime. This has been a booming issue for the past couple of weeks we have been in 2020, the possibility of an impending doom keeps looming on all of us. Now, there is a low probability that the coronavirus could have underlying illnesses and possibly be in more people who are infected, there’s also the chance that China could be lying and enforcing some sort of propaganda as many political junkies have believed so, and the conspiracies have gone as far as China unleashing a super killer bug in order to reduce population in the old sector as many of them cannot work anymore and China seems to have a growing over population problem, especially those who are not in the workforce anymore.
Now, why has it gone from WWIII to coronavirus? Well, the main answer is that social media and the news itself both have morphed into this super system where information can be distributed and manipulated easily now, resulting in false information going with the facts which can then be able to manipulate those who are gullible or scared of these events into thinking the possibility of death is coming for them. Coronavirus is a scary thought, it was the same as the ebola endemic during the past decade and those who were infected by the disease quickly fell into peril, especially those in developing countries. One thing is, however, is that America barely felt anything from ebola. The Americans who did go to third world countries such as Africa to help those who fell ill to ebola, might’ve had some sort of strain in their body, but that was mainly it, they didn’t die at all and recovered quickly to first world medicine. This goes into another piece of information which is ignorance and self loathing. People tend to be scared of these sorts of events, despite being thousands of miles away from it and perfectly well off in life with their 9-5 job and education. People did the same during the WWIII crisis, which wasn’t even happening on U.S soil, except for U.S Embassies that were hit, which still resulted in no deaths and minor brain trauma. People need to realize that problems around the world are problems there, people are getting killed in the streets of Iran for protesting against their corrupt government while people in America kill each other over the glorification of politics. One thing in this world people need to know is how to deal with their problems in the first place and not to eat up the media like its lunch, this will prevent the spread of ignorance and misinformation.
